Children's Services
NCJW New York Section members improve the quality of life for children and encourage their future
success through school readiness and enrichment programs and simple human kindness:
- Artreach volunteers, trained by the Whitney Museum of American Art, introduce fine
art to NYC public elementary school children through slide presentations in their classrooms.
- The Children's Literacy Program brings together New York Section volunteers, children and
books at elementary schools and day care centers. Volunteers read to children, maintain several lending
libraries and tutor children in reading.
- Home Instruction for Parents of Preschool Youngsters (HIPPY), introduced to New York City
by NCJW New York Section, offers parents skills, training, materials and support to prepare their
young children for success in school. New York Section volunteers advocate and raise funds for HIPPY
programs, and provide enrichment activities for HIPPY participants.
- Pediatric AIDS Caring Team (PACT) volunteers visit young children, born with AIDS, who
reside at the Incarnation Children's Center in Washington Heights. One weekday evening each week,
New York Section volunteers and children make music and play games together.
- Through Toys For Education and Creative Help (TEACH), New York Section volunteers arrange
donations of developmental equipment to registered day care providers.
